"The fighting Sicilian of world champions"

The Najdorf Variation (1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6) is the most respected fighting defense to 1.e4 — the lifetime weapon of Fischer and Kasparov. The little move 5...a6 looks modest, but it takes b5 away from White's pieces and keeps every plan open: ...e5 to seize the center, ...b5 to storm the queenside, ...Qc7 and ...Nbd7 to coordinate behind the pawn chain. This course builds a coherent repertoire around the classical ...e5 structures: against the English Attack (6.Be3) you'll learn the full counterattacking machine — ...Be6, ...Be7, castle, then ...b5-b4 and ...a5 racing White's own g4 storm; against the quiet 6.Be2 and 6.g3 you'll learn the patient Opocensky plans with ...Be6, ...Nbd7 and queenside pressure; and against the sharp 6.Bg5 and 6.Bc4 you'll learn the exact, engine-checked main lines that have held up for seventy years. The deep chapters complete the weapon: the modern 6.h3 frozen by ...h5, the Amsterdam 6.f4 met by the ...Ne5 blockade, and clean equalizing recipes against the anti-Sicilians — the Moscow check, the Alapin and the Closed — that make up half of club practice. Play the Najdorf and you never sit back and defend — you fight for the win from move one.
